TWICE-FIRED TEA BOWL, #1059: SOLD $225

This tea bowl measures 3.5 inches tall. Imagine our pleasure when we unstacked the Notre Dame anagama door and THIS piece was staring right at us! Compelling! (see photo #2 from the unloading)

But upon unloading I discovered that a piece of ceiling had taken aim at my bowl and deposited itself smack in the bottom of the bowl - no tea whisk was going to make friends with THIS tea bowl.

So, beautiful as it was, in order to salvage it I needed to re-fire it. I chose gas reduction...holding my breath all the while, hoping that the beauty wouldn't be erased by the second firing.

To my surprise, I think that the second firing actually improved the piece. What do you think?

I'm pricing this piece at half my normal rate so that someone - during this time of self-isolation - will be able to treat themself to some glorious accidental beauty.

See the detail images.

Price includes packing, shipping and insurance to continental US addresses.

Firing Process: Wood-fired
Type of Work: tea bowls (chawan)
