This Oni-glazed wall vase measures 4.75 inches tall.
Traditionally constructed homes, in Japan, have few surfaces on which to sit a vase. Post and beam construction offers posts and window framing to use for hanging vases.
It's not uncommon to find that whatever is blooming outside of the house, is "blooming" inside: in the wall vases overlooking the exterior.
I import the hanging mechanism - as there is an entire industry in Japan around the making of the hanging mechanisms..... none, here in the West.
This Oni-glazed approach is my way of continuing to try to expand my visual literacy…to expand my understanding of beauty, and to keep trying to learn how to make the pots that I don’t yet know how to make.
