This Tea Bowl (chawan) measures 3.5 inches tall and 6.25 inches in diameter. I invite you to look deeply at the remarkable texture and complexity that Oni-glazing creates. I've continued to explore "Oni-Glazing" for the last three years. The complexity and elusiveness manage to delight and challenge me enough that I keep going.
Be sure to look at all of the detail images as well. Some of the magic is most visible in the microcosm.
I'm especially interested in "unlearning" some of the things I learned early in my clay career: I'm not trying to cause/create dripping, running and crawling. Notice how these "errors" contribute to the vibrant and robust nature of the work.
This approach is my way of continuing to try to expand my visual literacy…to expand my understanding of beauty, and to keep trying to learn how to make the pots that I don’t yet know how to make.
I hope you’ll join me in this adventure…that you might have a place in your cupboard or collection....that they'd help fill your gifting or daily use rituals ....Enjoy.
